however, that there really is no single "Middle Eastern Culture," rather a large variety of cultures spread
throughout the region that have many similarities but countless differences between them. We would like to
offer you a mere glimpse into the variety of cultures in the region and their many contributions.

Middle East.
Before we discuss the differences between cultures, let us explore some of the general similarities shared by
most of the peoples of the Middle East. Probably the two most important unifying elements to the regional
cultures are family and hospitality. The family unit is an essential part of society throughout the Middle East,
and it goes far beyond one's immediate family or the average American definition of an extended family.
Family represents the heritage and future of every culture and society, and this is particularly valued in the
Middle East. Several generations of a family will frequently live in the same village, neighborhood or even
home together. 2nd, 3rd and 4th cousins are often included in large family celebrations, and they are always
respected as part of the greater clan.
Middle Eastern hospitality is legendary, and the tradition carries on today in even the most modern cities of
the region. It is very important that guests feel welcome, and every home is always prepared to offer coffee,
tea and food for visitors. It is not uncommon for people of the Middle East to open their homes to complete
strangers, and guests often feel like they have been accepted as part of the family.
